Two bicyclists, Bastian Heimberger and Albert Liebermann from Germany, stopped in Kalona Friday and Saturday during their journey across North America. Heimberger is a recent college graduate, and Liebermann is a member of the German Navy. The cyclists, who were also with a reporter from the BBC, heard about Kalona being an Amish community and were intrigued. They stayed with Ted Nagy, owner of the Kalona Brewing Company.

After Nagy impressed them with the KBC beer and food, he was able to give them a tour of the Amish area. They were able to meet and speak with one of the residents, and Nagy said the majority of the conversation was in German.

The trip was originally planned by Heimberger, and Liebermann agreed to join him on the trip. The cyclists are now making their way to Chicago as they continue their journey, which began in San Francisco and will finish in New York City.
