The Washington County Riverboat Foundation awarded a grant to an organization that aims to help veterans. Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere, or GIVE, is a foundation formed by the joint efforts of the Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Iowa City, the Iowa Section of the Professional Golfers Association, and the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort. The program seeks to use golf to enhance the mental, social, physical, and emotional well-being of wounded veterans, and improve their quality of life.
The WCRF awarded a grant of $10,000 to help GIVE raise money for charity golf. WCRF President Mike Driscoll said, “If you ever want to feel inspired, listen to a veteran who has participated in this program and had their life changed.” Since the GIVE foundation’s inception in 2007, they’ve helped an estimated 800 wounded veterans.
