The Mid-Prairie and Columbus girls track teams traveled to Eddyville-Blakesburg High School Thursday night for their class 2A state qualifying meet.

In the team race the Pekin Panthers took the district title with their overall score of 144. Top area finish came from the Golden Hawks who were runners up with 81 points. Columbus was eighth with 49 points. In class 2A the champions and runners-up in each event automatically qualify, while the next best eight performances from around the state will also be invited to Des Moines.

Mid-Prairie’s automatic qualifiers from Thursday night include: Anna Hostetler in the 1500 who was the event champion with her time of 4:48.44. Hostetler made it two for two, winning the 3000 in 10:58.89. The Golden Hawk 4x100m relay team of Ali Butters, Alex Rath, Abby Tornow and Emily Cayton punched their ticket with a time of 51.51 seconds. The Mid-Prairie distance medley team of Cayton, Rath, Hostetler and Greta Schmidt will also be in Des Moines, they took the event title Thursday night in 4:21.65. Other Golden Hawk qualifiers included Alex Rath in the 200, Anna Hostetler in the 800, the Golden Hawk 4×800 team of Tornow, Schmidt, Hannah VanRoekel and Maddi Zahradnek.

Automatic qualifiers from Thursday night for Columbus include: Shania Boyd who was runner up in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:08.53. The Wildcat shuttle hurdle relay advanced to state Thursday with their runner up finish. The team of Boyd, Anna Hamilton, Monaye Matthews, and Angie Byas finished in 1:13.06.

The state championship meet field will be finalized by the end of the day today, and it is still possible for more area athletes and events to qualify based on time. KCII sports will bring you more information as it becomes official. The Iowa State track meet is held May 19th through the 21st.
