The Mid-Prairie girls golf team has their sights on advancing when they open up the postseason tonight in the first round of regionals at the Kalona Golf Course.

Joining Mid-Prairie in the field are Albia, Burlington, Notre Dame, Centerville, Central Lee, Davis County, Louisa Muscatine and Mediapolis. On paper the Centerville Big Reds enter the meet as the team to beat, boasting a nine hold scoring average of 193, eighth best in all of 3A. Burlington, Notre Dame is second in the field with an average of 211, L-M and Mid-Prairie are third at 219. Golden Hawk Senior Allyson Wertz is the top individual in the field, holding a nine hold scoring average of 44, which is eighth in class 3A.

In order to advance, a team must finish in the top two in the final standings for today’s meet. The top five individuals also advance to the next round. Action continues all day today at the Kalona Golf Course.
