The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks flexed their muscles Thursday night in a road trip to conference rival West Liberty, pounding the Comets in a pair of games.

Mid-Prairie took game one 14-1 and game two 19-12. In game one, the Hawks scored in four straight at bats, taking a 2-0 lead in the second. West Liberty answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame. Mid-Prairie poured it on from there, scoring twice more in the third, eight times in the fourth and twice in the fifth to secure the win. Golden Hawk starter Jared Miller earned the win, allowing just four hits on the night and one run.

In the nightcap, the two schools seesawed back and forth before the Hawks finished with the seven run win. West Liberty struck first with three runs in the bottom of the second. Mid-Prairie answered with five in the top half, only to see the Comets post four more in the bottom. After the offensive outburst West Liberty led 7-5. Mid-Prairie would retake the lead in the top of the fifth with three more to make it 8-7. The Golden Hawks extended that lead to 12-7 with a four spot in the sixth, only to see the Comets score four of their own to pull back within 12-11. Mid-Prairie found another gear in the seventh, scoring seven runs in the frame to put the game out of reach. With the sweep, Mid-Prairie is now 3-1 on the year and will battle North Cedar Tuesday in conference action.
