One meeting just wasn’t enough for the Highland school board last week. After adjourning on Monday, a second meeting was scheduled for Wednesday. The need for this meeting was spurred by the possible removal of popular middle school Principal Joel Diederichs. To save money, a proposal was put forth to remove an administrator, with Diederichs being the likely candidate. When the dust settled Wednesday night, the principal was still employed. Superintendent Chris Armstrong explained that they had decided not to cut any position at this time, but will voluntarily adjust their roles during the next year in the hopes of adding stability.

Armstrong would go on to say that one of the plans going forward was to have a possible superintendent sharing agreement with a neighboring district. He pointed to the current agreement between the Washington and WACO schools. Regardless, Armstrong says that the changes are most certainly not finished, and the school board will continue to look for ways to meet their budget goals of saving $500,000.
