The Highland School Board met Monday and Wednesday to discuss budget changes in an effort to save the school district $500,000. Highland Superintendent Chris Armstrong says the state’s overall lack of funding for education is making it difficult to meet budget expectations. Two of the primary areas the board wished to address were transportation and operational sharing. They decided to eliminate the transportation to and from the Washington Kirkwood, to save an estimated $20,000 a year.

The board also decided to make changes regarding operational sharing. Highland will no longer share a transportation director, a human resources director, or a business manager with the Washington school district. Instead, Highland will share the transportation director and human resources director with Columbus schools. The Columbus school board is expected to meet and approve the sharing agreement at their meeting May 16th. The estimated savings for Highland is approximately $45,000.
