Iowa lawmakers adjourned the 2016 legislative session Friday, after one week of overtime. The session was scheduled to end April 19th, and last year the session didn’t adjourn until June 5th. Supplemental state aid was set at a 2.25% increase for school’s general funds. One item that was approved was more legislative oversight for the privatized Medicaid program, which was implemented by the governor’s office and went into effect April 1st.

A new office to combat human trafficking was also established, which was managed on the senate floor by Kevin Kinney. Also, Governor Terry Branstad signed into law a bill that allows first responders and others to administer a certain drug in the event of an opioid overdose.

The 2017 legislative session is set to begin January 9th.
