Iowa’s current topsoil moisture levels according to the most recent crop progress and condition report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture are slightly below the levels for the same time last year. Currently, 84% of the state has adequate topsoil moisture and 11% has surplus, while at this time last year 74% was adequate and 23% was surplus. The story is different for subsoil moisture levels. Currently 89% of subsoil has adequate moisture with 12% surplus, while last year it was only 79% adequate and 13% surplus.

Southeast Iowa’s topsoil moisture is 95% adequate to surplus and subsoil is 96% adequate to surplus.

Iowa does not have any drought conditions at this time, while 9.18% of the Midwest is abnormally dry.
