The Kewash Nature Trail has been the focus of an independent group in Keota. Washington County Conservation Director Steve Anderson explained the group has been working on altering the trail at the Keota end. The plan is to put in a parking area, shelter, and some amenities like bathrooms to increase the quality of the area. County Conservation’s involvement in the project has been minimal, mostly focusing on repairing culverts in the area.

Anderson also said that the Conservation Board is working on a different spot on the Kewash Trail closer to Washington. The deepest culvert, which runs just west of Highway 1, had its head wall plug up and fail recently. The emergency repair was accomplished, but now Anderson says they’re working on getting a more permanent solution.
