A Keota sophomore is the only member of his track team to qualify for this week’s Iowa Boys and Girls State Track Meet in Des Moines. Turner Klein will represent the Eagles in the Class 1A 3200 meter run tomorrow afternoon.

Klein came in fifth place in the Class 1A District 10 race last Thursday in Wayland, clocking eight laps around the track in 10:38.5. However, due to the caliber of runners in his district, Klein’s time was the 18th fastest among the 24 people statewide who qualified for the race.

Klein joins a trio of area distance runners competing for the state title in the Class 1A 3200 meter race, Highland senior Keiffer Sexton and Winfield-Mount Union’s Gavin Bencze and John Quinn.

The event is scheduled to take place at 3:50 p.m. tomorrow at the blue oval in Des Moines.
