The Mid-Prairie and Columbus boys track teams traveled to Eddyville-Blakesburg High School Thursday night for their class 2A district track meet.

Defending state champion West Burlington, Notre Dame won the team district title with 128 points. The top area finish came from Mid-Prairie in fifth with 63 points. Columbus was 11th. In class 2A the champions and runners-up in each event automatically qualify, while the next best eight performances from around the state will also be invited to Des Moines.

Automatic qualifiers from Thursday night for Mid-Prairie include: Levi Duwa winning the shot put event with his throw of 55’9″. Duwa also took the discus title with his throw of 146′. Luke Sigler qualified as a runner up in the 1600 with his time of 4:37.05. The Mid-Prairie 4×800 team of Sigler, Andrew Schwartz, Brent Foster and Peyton Miller qualified with their time of 8:20.07. Other Golden Hawk qualifiers include Andrew Schwartz in the 800, Floyd Evans in the 3200, the distance medley team of Miller, Quinn Schmidt, Keaton Duwa and Cary Schaefer.

Mauricio Ramirez  was an automatic qualifier for Columbus finishing runner up in the 100 with his time of 11.10 seconds. Other Columbus qualifiers included the Wildcat 4×100 team of Ruben Paz, Devon Henry, Abel Mena and Ramirez. The Columbus 4×200 also punched their ticket for state in Des Moines with the team of Paz, Henry, Mena and Ramirez.

The Iowa State track meet is held May 19th through the 21st.
