The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls track teams will travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg tonight for their class 2A state qualifying meet.

In class 2A, the top two finishers from each of the eight district sites across the state plus the eight next best performances state wide qualify for the state meet The Golden Hawk boys are fresh off of a 4th place finish out of 14 teams at the River Valley Conference Championship meet at West Branch a week ago. Mid-Prairie’s Levi Duwa, a double conference champ in the shot put and discus, has the best throw in the discus this year in the qualifying field, tossing 163’4″ earlier this year, he is second in the shot put field with a throw of 57’5.75″, trailing Iowa City Regina’s Jared Brinkman by two feet. The Mid-Prairie 4×800 team also comes into tonight’s qualifier second in the field with their performance of 8:23.85, trailing Pekin by just under seven seconds.

On the girls side Mid-Prairie finished seventh at the RVC Championships last week. Anna Hostetler was a double conference champion, winning the 1500 and 3000m events. Hostetler enters both of those events tonight second in the field, trailing Jordan Winke of Albia by less than a second in the 1500 and behind Gwynne Wright of Pekin by less than 2 seconds in the 3000m. Other top seeded Golden Hawk events include: Mid-Prairie’s 4×200 which is second in the field, trailing top seeded West Burlington by eight hundredths of a second. The Golden Hawks distance medley team is seeded second trailing top seed Pekin by three and a half seconds. The Mid-Prairie 4×100 relay team is third in the field behind first place Pekin by a half second, the Golden Hawk 4×800 team is third, trailing top seed Pekin by 20 seconds.

The Columbus Wildcat boys and girls track teams will also make the trip to Eddyville tonight. On the boys side of the meet Columbus has two events seeded third. Mauricio Ramirez is third in the 100m dash field, trailing Isaiah Trousil of West Burlington, Notre Dame by under a half second. The Columbus 4×100 team is also seeded third in the field trailing top seed West Burlington, Notre Dame by a second and a half.

On the girls side of the meet the Wildcat’s Shania Boyd is the top seeded participant in the long jump, clearing 17’1.50″. Boyd is also seeded second in the 400 hurdles trailing Sarah Vorwerk of Mediapolis by under three seconds, Boyd is also seeded third in the 100. Other top Columbus events include: Monaye Matthews seeded second in the 200, trailing Augusta Hamaker of Davis County by just under a second. The Columbus shuttle hurdle relay is also seeded second, trailing top seed Eddyville-Blakesburg by just over two seconds. Action begins this afternoon at 4PM at Eddyville-Blakesburg High School and continues into the night.
