The Mid-Prairie High School’s culinary lab won’t be used solely for children’s educational purposes when it’s completed in the fall of 2017. Family and consumer sciences teacher Sarah O’Rourke said there are plans to have some adult classes as well. In particular, they have a plan to help the lower-income families in the county that rely on donations from the food bank. O’Rourke described a community outreach course called “Cooking Matters” which would be offered as a way to teach food bank patrons how to take what they receive and turn it into healthy and economical meals. “Cooking Matters” is just one of several courses open to the community that Mid-Prairie would like to offer utilizing the culinary learning lab.
