Area residents of all ages are invited to the Spring Bird Festival this weekend at the Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge. The annual event will be held Saturday, May 7, and is an opportunity for people to learn more about what species of birds call Louisa County home during the spring migration season.

The Port Louisa National Refuge office in Wapello is hosting several events during Saturday, including a songbird banding demonstration, guided bird hikes, and a birds of the prey program. There will also be several children’s activities, including the opportunity to practice taking birds out of nets, and the chance to band a duck.

The event is free and open to the public, and is planned in partnership with the Friends of Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge. For more information on the Spring Bird Festival, contact the Port Louisa National Refuge office at 319-523-6982.
