One week since earning naming rights of the school’s long jump record, Lone Tree junior Jovonte Squires bested himself on the state’s biggest stage. Squires competed at Thursday’s Iowa Girls and Boys State Track Meet in Des Moines, taking part in the Class 1A long jump.

His best leap was measured at 22’4.75″, surpassing his old record of 22’1″ set at last week’s state qualifying meet in Wayland. Squires bested the Class 1A field by 2.5 inches.

This was the second time in less than a month that Squires competed in the field events at the blue oval. He qualified for the 107th annual Drake Relays, taking eighth place in the long jump competition with a leap of 21’8″.
