A pair of Sigourney seniors will represent the district at the Class 1A golf tournament. The Savages advanced the girls and boys’ teams past the first round of postseason play, positioning both for a chance to qualify the squads for the state meet.

The Sigourney girls’ golf team competed in the last Friday’s Class 1A Region 3 final at the Knoll Ridge Golf Course in North English, battling athletes from Don Bosco, Iowa Valley, Moravia, New London, and Winfield-Mount Union. The top two teams and the top five placing golfers would be invited to the state golf tournament. The Savages posted a collective score of 395 strokes, falling four shots short of second place Iowa Valley for the final state spot in the team competition. The Savages were led by senior Stacy Mohr, who finished in a tie for fourth place with an 18-hole round of 87. Mohr’s performance advanced her to Class 1A girls’ state golf tournament to be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Jester Park in Granger.
