Two area boys’ golf teams battled for conference glory Tuesday. The Sigourney Savages and the Keota Eagles battled nine other teams in the 2016 Boys SICL Tournament at the Marengo Golf Club.

The Sigourney Savages finished in third place in the team competition, carding 345 strokes and three golfers earned all-conference recognition. Senior Jordan Albert finished his final conference tournament in a five-way tie for 4th place, earning first team all-conference honors with a score of nine over 81. Junior Kaden Benson carded a 12 over 84, taking second team all-conference honors. Freshman Dustin Haines concluded his first conference golf tournament as an honorable mention all-conference performer, posting a 14 over 86.

The Keota Eagles took ninth place in the overall team standings, tallying 383 strokes. Junior Avery Conrad posted the team’s lowest round individually, shooting an 18 over 90.

The Savages and Eagles are paired together in today’s Class 1A Sectional Tournament at the Lagos Arces Golf Course in Keota. The other teams competing in the event include golfers from Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom, English Valleys, Hartwick-Ladora-Victor, Iowa Valley, Keota, and Montezuma. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
