Iowa Mennonite School and several other area teams will travel to WACO this evening for their class 1A state qualifier meet.

In class 1A, the district champions from each site qualify along with the next 12 best performances from across the state. The Iowa Mennonite School boys enter tonight with Drake Brezina with the top time in the 400m dash qualifying time. The Iowa Mennonite School girls team has Emma Beachy seeded second in the discus field.

Also at this site tonight are Highland, Keota, Lone Tree, Sigourney, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union. On the boys side Highland senior Kieffer Sexton is the top seeded runner in the 3200, leading the field by nearly 22 seconds in qualifying. Sexton is also the top qualifier in the field in the 1600, outpacing the competition by just under eight seconds. The Highland 4×400 relay team is also the top seeded squad in their event, holding the best time in the field by 13 hundredths of a second. The Huskies are also the best in the sprint medley, topping the qualifying field by nearly seven seconds. For the Winfield-Mt. Union boys, Ross Vantiger tops the 400m hurdle qualifying group. Bryce Robison is also best in the long jump qualifying field.  WMU also holds the top time in the 4×100 relay and the 4×200 relay. For the Lone Tree boys, Brock Smith has the top qualifying time entering tonight’s 800m event. On the boys side the WACO Warriors are led by Bryce Achen who holds the top qualifying time in the 100, 110 hurdles and the 200m dash. The WACO boys also hold the top qualifying time in the field in the shuttle hurdle relay.

On the girls side of the event For the Highland Huskies, Bailey Harmston leads the field in the high jump, followed by teammate Aly Stokes. The Huskies 4×100 team also has the fastest time that will be at WACO tonight. For the Sigourney Savages Autum Barthelman is on top of the 100m hurdle qualifying field. Summer Barthelman has the top qualifying jump in the long jump field. The Savages shuttle hurdle relay also has the best qualifying performance coming into tonight’s event. For the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves Hannah Buffington leads the way in the shot put event. For the host WACO Warriors Mayme Hinh is the top qualifier in the discus throw. Action begins this afternoon at 4PM and continues into the night at WACO High School.
