A Washington alum put the finishing touches on his college golf career this week in Michigan. Alex Thode and the Lewis University Flyers men’s golf team competed in the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional Golf Tournament hosted by the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan. The home course of the Grand Valley State University Lakers is a par 72 course.

The three day event saw the Flyers miss the cutoff for the NCAA Division II National Championship by two strokes, finishing in a tie for sixth place with 915 strokes. Lewis University and Southwestern Oklahoma ended the 54-hole event with identical scores. The Central Missouri Mules won the tournament with the lowest team score of 900. The top five lowest scoring teams advance to the NCAA Division II Championship Round in Denver, Colorado. Central Oklahoma was the last team to qualify form the Midwest/Central Regional, completing three rounds of golf with 913 strokes.

Thode recorded a 54th place finish in his final postseason college tournament, carding a three round score of 232 strokes. His best 18-hole round came on day one of the tournament, recording a three over 75.

Thode concludes his collegiate golf career as a two-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference golfer, winning the GLVC men’s golf individual championship as a junior by nine strokes.
