Mid-Prairie High School is taking advantage of a unique opportunity with the City of Kalona to give some of their students a chance to learn about architecture, engineering, and construction management. Recently, the city informally solidified an agreement with the school to have students job shadow with the city’s community center project. Four impending seniors at Mid-Prairie High School have applied for the opportunity, and city administrator Ryan Schlabaugh anticipates all of them to be accepted.

Schlabaugh said he thinks it’s exciting for them to be able to witness a project from start to finish and see the fruits of their labor through their senior year. He feels it’s not only a great program for the school, but also for the community. The students selected will be able to attend meetings and provide input on the project, and Schlabaugh anticipates they would help the project on some level throughout its duration.
