Three upperclassmen have led the Sigourney Savage girls’ golf team to the brink of the Class 1A state golf tournament. The Savages participated in Monday’s Region 3A first round meet at the par 72 Preserve Golf Course at Lake Rathbun, competing against golfers from Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom, Colfax-Mingo, Lynnville-Sully, Melcher-Dallas, Moravia, and Montezuma. The two lowest scoring teams and top six placing individuals advance to next Monday’s regional final golf meet.

Sigourney posted three top five finishes, helping the Savages win the tournament with the lowest team score of 411 strokes. Moravia, the host school for the first round meet, advanced to the regional final tournament with a second place finish of 466 strokes.

The Savages were led by senior Stacy Mohr, earning medalist honors with an 18-hole round of 90. Junior Kendall Streigle placed second, carding a 97. Senior Hannah Redlinger came away with a fifth place finish, tallying 110 strokes. Sophomore Sydney Striegel rounded out the scoring for the Savages, posting 114 strokes.

Sigourney and Moravia advance to next Monday’s regional final golf tournament at the Knoll Ridge Country Club in North English. The Savages will battle for a spot in the Class 1A state golf tournament against golfers from Don Bosco, Iowa Valley, New London, and Winfield-Mount Union.
