A familiar foe awaits the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team (2-10 overall) in the opening round of the playoffs today. The Demons begin their postseason run in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A Substate 4 bracket against Southeast Conference member the Fairfield Trojans (8-5 overall).

The teams met twice during the regular season with Fairfield winning both matches by a combined score of 19-2. Washington has had trouble slowing down Trojan senior Solomon Constant, who scored 10 goals and assisted on five others versus the Demons this season. In last Thursday’s 10-2 victory at Trojan Stadium, he scored six goals and assisting on the other four.

Washington brings a balanced scoring threat into the postseason. Three players have scored five or more goals this spring, including sophomores Julio Salgado Hernandez (6) and Anthony Torres (5) and freshman Caleb Suchan (5). Sophomore Thomas Zimmer has recorded a conference leading 157 saves in goal.

The winner will advance to Wednesday’s semifinal round against the Fort Madison Bloodhounds (14-1 overall). Tonight’s kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
