Terry Anderson – contributed photo

Fallen law enforcement officers will be remembered this week during the National Peace Officers Memorial Day May 15th and one Washington High School graduate who lost his life in the line of duty will be commemorated. May is also Preservation Month and chair of the Washington Historic Preservation Commission shares they’re hosting an event Sunday in honor of Terry Anderson. He was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School and was killed in the line of duty when he was in the FBI.

Anderson was in Pennsylvania looking for a 17-year-old girl who had been abducted when he was shot and killed. The girl survived and the abductor William Hollenbaugh was killed. Patterson says it’s important to recognize the contributions of local people.

According to the FBI, Anderson’s son, Michael, who was 12 at the time of his father’s death, followed in his footsteps and became an FBI agent – retiring in 2004.

The public event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
