The final home doubleheader for the Washington Demon soccer teams is set for tonight. The Demons welcome the Keokuk Chiefs to Washington High School for a pair of Southeast Conference games. This marks the first meeting of the season between the schools on the soccer pitch.

Today marks the first game for the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team in 10 days, playing their last match April 25th at home against the Mount Pleasant Panthers. The Demons are searching for their first league win against a Southeast Conference opponent since 2014, dropping their last 15 league matches. Sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Zimmer has made 86 saves this spring, 36 more than any other keeper in the league. A trio of underclassmen have scored a team-high four goals this spring for Washington, including sophomores Anthony Torres and Julio Salgado Hernandez and freshman Caleb Suchan. Today is the final regular season home game for seniors Christian Mejia and Giovanni Coronel.

The Washington girls’ soccer team will try again for their first win of the spring. Their latest setback came Monday at Oskaloosa, a 10-0 loss to the Indians. The Demons have struggled with both facets of the game, allowing 65 goals defensively while scoring three goals on offense. Seniors Kristen Barber and Stacy Ramirez and junior Jesse Buchholz have each tallied one goal a piece this season.

The Southeast Conference doubleheader kicks off at 4 p.m. and the boys’ are set to follow at 6 p.m. at Washington High School. Listen to tomorrow’s sports page for results.
