Washington High School students in the Class of 2016 who are graduating this Sunday were honored Thursday. The annual Senior Class Night was held at the Washington Community Center. Athletic Director Bryce Smeins who presented some of the athletic awards and is retiring next month said he’s going to definitely miss a lot of the personalities and character and what this class brought to the school.

One of the class officers, Hannah Black served as emcee of the event. Over 50 awards and honors were presented. Scholarships were awarded from area foundations and businesses.

Commencement will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the high school gym. This year’s class motto comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
