A battle of girls’ soccer teams rendered a competitive, but losing outcome for the Washington Demon girls’ squad (0-11) Tuesday. The Demons entertained the Centerville Redettes (1-9 overall) in a non-conference match at Washington High School. Centerville earned their first win of the season, defeating Washington 3-2.

Demon senior Kristen Barber helped stay in the contest with a pair of second half goals. Trailing 2-0, Barber connected on her first goal in the 55th minute, cutting the Centerville lead to one. The Redettes extended their lead back to two goals one minute later. Barber’s final goal of the afternoon came in the 75th minute, bringing the score to 3-2.

Barber’s pair of goals elevates her season total to three, leading the Demons. Tuesday marked the first time this season Washington has scored multiple goals in a game, ending a four-game scoreless streak.

Washington resumes Southeast Conference play this afternoon, hosting the Fairfield Trojans. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Washington High School.
