Washington County residents cleaned out their medicine cabinets and safely got rid of expired and unwanted medication Saturday. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington Police Department, along with the Drug Enforcement Agency, held a safe, anonymous disposal of unwanted medications to prevent prescription drug abuse in Washington. Washington County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jared Schneider states they had a great turnout at the prescription drug take-back day, despite the weather. They collected 29 pounds of pills and 6.5 pounds of liquids. He added it keeps people from flushing unused prescription drugs down the toilet, which can harm water supplies. This was the 11th take-back program in six years held locally.
