Residents of Washington are reminded to take care of their yards. According to City code, the maximum height of grass or weeds is eight inches in residential, commercial and industrial zones and 12 inches in unplatted districts. The property owner and occupant are jointly responsible for mowing the space between the lot line and the curb or edge of the traveled portion of the street right-of-way. If a nuisance violation is reported, the City may initiate abatement procedures within 48 hours. At which time the City may mow the yard and charge the property owner for the services.
