A sophomore on the Washington Demon boys’ golf team is heading to the state golf tournament next week in Livermore. The Demons participated in Wednesday’s district golf meet at the Amana Colonies Golf Course, competing against golfers from Benton, Keokuk, Mount Vernon, and Vinton-Shellsburg. Washington finished in a tie for second in the team standings with Mount Vernon at 350 strokes, but ultimately finished third due to the Mustangs having a better score for their first scratch golfer. Vinton-Shellsburg won the district championship with the lowest score of 345.

After 18-holes of golf, Washington’s Dalton Myers was tied for first place with Vinton-Shellsburg’s Tyler Stueck at 82 strokes, sending the pair into a playoff to decide medalist honors. Myers dropped the playoff on the second hole, taking runner up medalist honors. The top four individual scores advance to next week’s state meet.

Sophomore Jacob Van Osdol posted the second best score for Washington, shooting an 88 for seventh place. Juniors Tanner Coleman and Noah Enfield completed their round with identical scores of 90. Washington’s first scratch score came from freshman Ben Bohr, who shot a 95. Bohr’s score was five shots behind Mount Vernon’s scratch golfer, sophomore Reese Pitlik.

The Class 3A state golf tournament will be held next Friday and Saturday at the Spring Valley Course in Livermore.
