Whoopee Days are returning to Brighton for the 106th year this weekend. Originally, the town was celebrating the completion of their first paved road, and the townsfolk were so excited they exclaimed “Whoopee!” Brighton Chamber of Commerce member Nancy Adrian said she thinks it’s important that small towns continue with their annual celebrations as a way to bring people together in the community, as well as bringing others into the community.

This year’s theme is “Brighton Back in Time,” and some of the events attendees can look forward to are the Hawkeye Pedal Tractor Pull for kids, the return of Andy and Mike with the Dueling Piano Band, a country music concert by American Idol contestant Michael Powers from Pleasant Plain, and Dan Ladd’s Comedy Hypnosis show. Whoopee Days run from Thursday through Sunday, and KCII will be there Saturday with the Big Red Radio. For a full list of activities, visit BrightonIowaChamber.com.
