Columbus Junction will be hosting their Third Annual Swinging Bridge Festival this Saturday. Organizer Melanie DeVore explained the history of the bridge, which was built in 1886 to allow citizens to walk over the ravine instead of around it. The city plans to build a recreational area around the 260 foot extension bridge, and the purpose of the festival is to raise money for those projects.

The event will begin with a 5K race and 1.5 Mile walk at 6:45 a.m. There will be activities the rest of the day in different locations around town, including the new Monkey Run Park. A dedication ceremony for the park will be at 2 p.m., with a concert by The Great Bluegrass Herons. All events are open to the public, with all proceeds going to the Swinging Bridge Fund.
