The second ever trip to the Class 1A state soccer tournament ended Thursday for the No. 6 seeded Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union Wildcats (17-2 overall). As heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com, the Wildcats battled the No. 3 seed Carroll Kuemper Catholic Knights in the quarterfinal round.

The only goal tallied came with six seconds remaining in first overtime period as the ball was knocked into Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union’s defensive net, assisting Carroll Kuemper Catholic to a 1-0 victory. Senior Warren Kreiger-Coble blocked seven shots in his final high school soccer game.

The Wildcats’ season ends with an overall record of 17-2. Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union loses Adrian Santos, Alex Hernandez, Diego Sanchez, and Warren Krieger-Coble to graduation.
