In a Super conference softball matchup that featured twists and turns, it was Columbus who finally posted a 12-11 win over Iowa Mennonite Tuesday.

In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, IMS struck first with a pair of runs in their first at bat when Averi Blauvelt cranked a two run homer. IMS would tack on four more in the second on four more hits to build a 6-0 lead. Columbus answered with four of their own in the third, all with two outs, to cut the deficit to 6-4. It was the Iowa Mennonite offense who got on the board next in the top of the fourth, an inning that saw IMS score four times without a hit and three Columbus pitchers featured in the circle. Leading 10-4, IMS added another in the sixth when Rubye Ney came home from second on passed ball when the throw from the Columbus catcher at the backstop hit the umpire in the head.

Iowa Mennonite held their 11-4 lead going to the seventh when Columbus exploded. Columbus would crank out six hits in the inning and eight runs, the game winner came with Bailey Stroud on second, Courtney Zaehringer grounded out, Stroud never stopped running, the throw from first beat her to the plate and she was initially called out, but the ball was knocked away during the tagging process and the call was overruled at the plate giving the Wildcats the win.

Columbus was led on the night by Maki Mendenhall with two hits, two driven in and two runs scored. Stroud had two hits two RBI and runs scored. Shania Boyd had a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Kayla Beenen got the win in relief going three and two thirds innings, giving up a pair of hits and won run. Blauvelt was two for three for IMS with four RBI and two runs scored, Rubye Ney was two for two with four runs scored and an RBI. With the loss IMS is now 0-3 on the year, with the win Columbus improves to 3-6.
