For a second straight season, the Washington Demon girls’ golf squad is the best in the state. The defending Class 4A champions conquered Ames’ Coldwater Golf Links Course, shooting the lowest team score of 715. Southeast Conference rival Fairfield placed second overall, finishing 13 strokes behind the Demons.

Sophomore Sarah Nacos also defended her Class 4A individual title, earning medalist honors with a 36-hole performance of 12 over 154. Nacos bested the field by nine strokes. Senior Deanna Peiffer concluded her high school athletic career in a tie for fourth place, shooting a 28 over 170.

Sophomore Megan Strabala carded the Demons’ third best score, finishing in a tie for 25th place with a two-day score of 26 over 195. Senior Brenna Burlingame rounded out the scoring for Washington, concluding her high school golf career in a tie for 31st place with a score of 60 over 202.

This isn’t the first time the girls’ golf team has won back-to-back state titles, mimicking the feat in 2007 and 2008.
