County rivals will square off on the softball diamond in Washington tonight. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (10-14 overall) will make a trip to Washington for a non-conference meeting against the Demons (6-17 overall).

Washington’s record has improved recently, winning four of their last six games. The Demons split a Southeast Conference doubleheader Monday with the No. 8 Fairfield Trojans, winning game one, 2-1, before losing game two, 11-2. The game one victory snapped Washington’s 12-game losing streak to Fairfield, dating back to the 2013 season. Freshman Molly Sparks has been the victorious pitcher in the previous three wins for Washington, allowing three runs or fewer in each start.

Mid-Prairie also saw their fortunes turn around last week, winning three of their last four games. Senior Alex Rath leads the River Valley Conference South in hits with 34 and stolen bases with 22. Senior Amber Kral has driven in the most runs in the conference, plating 34 Golden Hawks this season. Kral also leads the River Valley Conference South with 10 doubles, and is second in home runs with five.

KCII Sports will provide live play-by-play coverage of the game, beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
