A pair of Southeast Conference games resulted in different outcomes Monday for the Washington Demon baseball team (7-5 overall). As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons welcomed the Keokuk Chiefs (2-10 overall) to Dick Sojka Memorial Field for two league games. Washington powered their way to a 16-1 game one victory in four innings before falling in game two, 9-6.

The Demons’ offense combined to score 16 runs on 16 hits in the initial game of the series. Five Washington players scored two or more runs in game one, led by junior Bryce Craff with three. Junior Noah Enfield was a home run away from the cycle in game one, scoring two runs and driving in another pair. Senior Michael Ellingson drove in a team-leading three runs in the game one victory. Junior Zach Londberg earned the game one victory, allowing one unearned run on three hits, walking none and striking out five.

Game two saw Washington jump out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning, and they held a 6-3 advantage entering the top of the fifth. Keokuk posted back-to-back three-run innings, tying the game at 6-6 and taking a 9-6 lead in the top of the sixth. Senior Chandler Sanders pitched three scoreless innings in relief to end the game, securing Keokuk’s second victory of the season. Washington used five pitchers in game two, all juniors including Michael Gier, Tanner Coleman, Dakota Kron, Londberg, and Colin Zear.

The split brings Washington’s overall record to 7-5. The Demons return to the diamond today, hosting the No. 1 Pella Little Dutch (9-1 overall) at Dick Sojka Memorial Field. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
