The Early Childhood Board of Des Moines, Henry, Louisa, and Washington County, or DHLW, is accepting applications from agencies or organizations in Louisa County for their program. Early Childhood Iowa, which began in 1998, is a statewide initiative that provides funding to area boards to support local programs for parents and children aged 0-5. DHLW Director Tasha Beghtol said they had a program in Louisa County which is not going to continue as of June 30th, so the board decided to seek a program that offers similar services such as parent education and group events.

The DHLW currently has 23 contracts with local care providers, and there could be more depending on how many applications they receive and how the board feels the community will be best served. Applications are due by July 15th, and a decision will be made by August 16th. Beghtol added the board is always looking for more members, so anyone interested in volunteering should contact her at 319-461-1369.
