The struggles against the Fairfield Trojans (5-0 overall) continued Thursday night for the Washington Demon softball team (2-4 overall). As heard on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons resumed Southeast Conference play on the road against the No. 6 Trojans in a pair of league contests. Fairfield jumped out to comfortable leads in the first inning of both games, taking game one, 10-0, in five innings and game two, 15-7.

Washington got off to a slow offensive start, scattering three hits in a game one shutout. Game two saw the Demons score seven runs on 10 hits. Freshman Haylee Wilson opened the scoring for Washington with a solo home run to lead off the second inning, the first of her career. Senior Makenzie Knutson reached base safely four times in game two, scoring three runs in the setback.

Fairfield sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning in each contest, plating nine runs in game one’s opening frame and eight in game two. Senior Kenady Waugh scored a pair of runs in each contest, driving in three additional runs. Two of her three runs batted in came on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
