Friday, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team was in action at the Iowa City West Softball Classic.

In games heard on AM and FM KCII, the Golden Hawks matched up with Davenport Assumption and Muscatine in their pair of games. Game one saw the Assumption Knights top the Hawks 8-0. The Knights did their damage early, scoring once in the first, twice in the second and five times in the third to build their 8-0 advantage. Mid-Prairie struggled at the plate against Assumption’s Nicole Timmons who did not allow a hit. The Golden Hawks broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth inning with a single by Ali Butters off of reliever Shannon Guy. The Hawks finished with two total. Cassidy Rourke took the loss going three innings, allowing 10 hits, eight runs and walking three.

In game two Mid-Prairie fell to the Muscatine Muskies 13-1 in four innings. The Muskies scored in every at bat, and hit around the lineup in two different innings, scoring twice in the first, four times in the second and third and three times in the fourth. Muscatine was also aided by six Mid-Prairie errors in the field. The Golden Hawks broke through at the plate in the fourth inning with Amber Kral, Ali Naylor and Abby Tornow all recording singles. Tornow’s hit drove in Kral for Mid-Prairie’s only run of the day. Kirsten Duwa took the loss for Mid-Prairie in the circle, she went two plus innings allowed nine hits, nine runs, four of them were earned and hit three batters.

With the losses Mid-Prairie is now 2-7 on the year. The Golden Hawks will be back on the diamond in Iowa City again today when they take on Jesup and Linn-Mar in the final day of the event.
