The Louisa County Hometown Pride group was honored recently at the Governor’s Volunteer Awards. The ceremony honored people and groups from around Iowa for their volunteer work, and attendees got to meet the governor and lieutenant governor. The Keep Iowa Beautiful program nominated Louisa County Hometown Pride for all the work they’ve done over the last year to improve the county, including the recent road clean-up on the RAGBRAI route.
Hometown Pride Community Coach Doug Elam said most volunteers don’t do things for the recognition. However, he felt the organization deserved a pat on the back to let them know their efforts are appreciated and the Governor’s Volunteer Awards was the best way to do that. Elizabeth Koehn of Wellman and Delbert Long of Crawfordsville were also honored at the awards for their work with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program.
