The Fourth of July holiday is quickly approaching and the Iowa Department of Public Safety is reminding everyone to keep their celebrations safe and avoid impaired driving. Last year, during the three-day holiday 164 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving at least one driver with a blood alcohol concentration above .08 across the United States.

Beginning July 1st, state and local law enforcement agencies will step up their efforts to eliminate drunk drivers and reduce speeding to protect the public. Iowa had no fatalities over the three-day Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2015 and the IDPS is hoping to repeat that this year.
