Hawks Split with Indians

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team hosted the Wapello Indians Wednesday night at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman for a nonconference doubleheader.

In a pair of games heard on AM and FM KCII, the Hawks split with the Indians, winning game one 6-4 and dropping game two 10-7. In game one, Wapello took a 1-0 lead with a single tally in the second inning. Mid-Prairie answered with a pair in their half of inning two. The seesaw continued with the Indians scoring three times in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. The Golden Hawks would respond once more with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to build a 6-4 advantage while Jacob Leonard closed things down on the mound throwing the complete game win. Leonard struck out seven in the victory. At the plate Mid-Prairie was led by Karson Gingerich and his two for three night with two runs scored and two driven in.

In game two Wapello posted three runs in the top half of the first to take an early lead. Mid-Prairie countered with five runs on a half dozen hits in the bottom half to jump on top 5-3. Wapello answered with a pair in the top of the second to tie the game at five and then saw Mid-Prairie score once in the bottom of the second to go back up 6-5. The Indians took the lead for good in the fourth when they scored three times to go up 8-6, they would add two more in the fifth to push the margin to 10-6. The Golden Hawks scored once in the seventh. Jared Miller took the loss on the mound for Mid-Prairie, he went three and two thirds innings, gave up five hits, five runs, walked four and struck out one. At the plate, Mid-Prairie’s lone senior on Senior Night, Adam Schrock had three hits, scored twice and drove in one. With the split Mid-Prairie is now 12-14 on the year.
