The most aggressive base runner through the first two weeks of the baseball season has been Highland senior Spencer Wieland. Nine games into the season, Highland (6-3 overall) leads the entire state in stolen bases with 65.

Wieland has accounted for 23 of the team’s stolen bases in 26 attempts. Entering this week, he leads the state by eight stolen bases. Wieland has already surpassed his stolen base total from last season, safely swiping 11 bases as a junior.

He also leads the Huskies in hits (10), runs scored (14), walks (10), batting average (.565) and on base percentage (.706). Wieland is the son of Jeff and Carrie Wieland. She is Highland’s head softball coach.

The Huskies have won six of their first nine games of the season, and resume play Wednesday at home versus the Lisbon Lions (2-2 overall).
