The investigation into a fire that took a woman’s life in downtown Washington the morning of June 19th is still ongoing. The cause of the fire has not be released. In the early morning hours, a two-story house at 116 West Third Street was on fire and 22-year-old Deshia Matthew died. The State Fire Marshal’s office confirmed they are assisting local authorities with the investigation.
In addition, Optimae LifeServices, which provided services to residents of the home, is conducting an investigation. When asked if working smoke detectors were in the house Optimae LifeServices Director of Communications and Public Relations Sheena Poorman told KCII News that is part of the ongoing investigation.
