Dry, hot days created many suitable days for fieldwork in Iowa last week. According to the most recent Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report, last week farmers in southeast Iowa had 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork, including cutting and baling hay, spraying herbicides, and side-dressing work. In our corner of the state, 99% of soybeans are planted and 89% have emerged, with the state’s soybean crop being 10 days ahead of the five-year average. The warmer and drier weather did have scattered reports of stress on livestock due to the heat and humidity.
