Tuesday is Flag Day, a celebration of Old Glory. According to the Library of Congress, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson established the Flag Resolution of 1777 by proclamation and it was in 1949 that President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress designated June 14th every year as National Flag Day. The day commemorates the adoption of the red and white stripes and blue field of white stars as the official flag of the United States. It was on June 14, 1777, that John Adams spoke about the flag at a meeting of the Continental Congress. Many homes and businesses celebrate the day by displaying an American flag outside.
