Concerns of Police Survivors, or the C.O.P.S. Foundation, was created following the death of officer Danny Martinez, Jr., in part by Warren Ropp who recently visited the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Ropp, the father of a police lieutenant in Ames, said the purpose of his visit is to create awareness and applaud the work of law enforcement officers. He shared they’re hosting an event at Hawkeye Downs Raceway Speedway in Cedar Rapids June 24th to raise money for the foundation. The “Racing for a Cause” series raised over $45,000 for the C.O.P.S. Foundation by the end of the 2016 racing season. Wahsington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar it was great to have positive recognition for the work officers do.
