With Medicaid Modernization now in it’s third month in Iowa some issues regarding billing and payment to care providers are coming to light. At the recent Washington County Board of Health meeting Peggy Wood, Washington County Public Health fiscal administrator, provided the monthly financial report and said from April and May billing they still have $57,000 worth of payment outstanding.

She added a worst case scenario if they received no further payment this month they’d have a $49,000 shortfall. With the fiscal year ending June 30th, and a delay in payment being received Wood said the best case scenario is an $8,000 deficit, something the department has not encountered before. Regional community health consultant Berdette Ogden said Washington is the only county that is successfully billing and getting paid in her 17-county region.
