Mid-Prairie School Board member Chuck Freeman has announced his resignation. Freeman will be moving to Keota in the coming weeks, and therefore can no longer serve on the Mid-Prairie School Board. Superintendent Mark Schneider said they knew the resignation was coming, and at the most recent board meeting it was made official. Now they begin the process of finding a replacement for Freeman. Schneider said the board has 30 days from the notice of the vacancy to appoint a new member, and if they fail to do so a special election will take place. However, he believes the board will appoint a new member at the July 11th board meeting. He added the public still has an opportunity to recommend names to the board, and they can even petition for a special election. The petition would need 227 signatures within 14 days after the vacancy to succeed.
